Do's

  • Clean with a wrung out damp cloth, drying after with a towel. A normal kitchen antibacterial spray can be used.
  • Dry before putting the board away
  • Apply periodically, a light coating of one of our conditioners or mineral oil, to restore the lustre and condition.

Don’t

Immerse in water, or place in a dishwasher as this will significantly reduce the life of
the board. The appearance of the wood may naturally darken over time.

Leave to dry or place near a radiator, this will dry out the wood and can cause
warping.

Place on top of cookers or stoves, this is a potential fire hazard and can also warp the board

Leave liquids puddling on the board, this can lift the grain and cause it to be slightly rough to the touch. (This can be remedied with a brief and light sanding)

Do not leave in direct sunlight, either from a window or rooflight.

Acclimatising

  • Your board might acclimatise to its new surroundings, this being the humidity and
    temperature in your house.
  • It may expand or contract, this is perfectly normally for anything made from wood.
This may cause a slight cupping either up or down of your board. Given a little time,
this usually settles down and corrects itself. You can simply turn the board upside down and to help correct this, or try sprinkling a handful of water on the dipped side and again turn upside down overnight. This normally rectifies the effects of acclimatisation.
